Guitar Lessons

I offer classical guitar lessons from a purpose built studio at my home in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. I can also provide lessons via Zoom, please contact me to discuss further details.

Approach

My teaching focus is on developing proper technique in order to express musical and emotional content.  I believe that the student-teacher relationship is crucial to developing as a musician.

My lessons are fun and engaging. I am always encouraging and patient whilst still challenging students to help them progress. I am sensitive to the different personalities, ages, learning styles and aims of my students and adjust my teaching accordingly.

I believe anyone can benefit from a musical education and should have the opportunity to do so regardless of age, background, learning or playing ability. So whether you are an adult beginner or have a child studying for a grade, whether you just want to play for your own pleasure or would like to perform in front of others, please get in touch, I'm sure I can help you on your musical journey.

Terms & Conditions

  • I offer an initial trial lesson for a one-off fee, if after this you are not completely satisfied there is no obligation to book any further lessons
  • Lessons can be 30, 45 or 60 minutes long, we will agree a regular time slot for your lesson that will be the same each week
  • I will provide 36 lessons across the academic year following the local school calendar for half terms, Christmas, Easter and Summer breaks
  • You will receive an invoice every month for the same amount each month, regardless of how many actual lessons take place in that month
  • The amount will be for 36 lessons divided by 12 months. (Example: for a 30min lesson the monthly fee would be £22 * 36 weeks / 12 months = £66 per month)
  • The monthly fee reserves your weekly time slot (please see Fees section below for details)
  • If you cannot attend a lesson you can rearrange with 48hrs notice as long as we can find a mutually agreeable time during that term
  • If I ever have to cancel I will refund the value of that lesson
  • Individual lessons cannot otherwise be cancelled or refunded
  • However I offer two optional slots over August for free lessons. You can think of this as having 38 lessons for the price of 36 or as having 2 slots for catching up on lessons you couldn't attend during term time.
  • To completely cancel your regular lesson slot I require 1 month's notice please
  • You can choose to pay manually when you get each monthly invoice or set up a standing order. I accept payment by bank transfer or standing order (but not cash, cheque or direct debit at this time)
  • I set my fees in line with Musicians' Union recommended rates and the Incorporated Society of Musicians annual fee survey
  • I review my fees once per year. Periodically fees may increase in which case I will provide 1 whole term's notice.
